Who files the ESA notification?
When you hire a Licensed Electrical Contractor for work requiring an ESA notification, the contractor handles the notification for the electrical work they perform.
You should not have to hire an electrician and then independently arrange the contractor’s electrical notification yourself.
What is a Certificate of Acceptance?
After the electrical work has gone through the required ESA process and is accepted, a Certificate of Acceptance provides documentation relating to that electrical work. Keep it with the home’s records.
Is a building permit the same thing?
No. A renovation may involve a municipal building permit, an ESA electrical notification, both, or other approvals depending on the project. A building permit does not automatically cover the electrical work.
